Dr Pan Xie holds a PhD in Linguistics and an MA in English Language Teaching, both earned from the Department of English and Communication at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. She completed her undergraduate studies at Nanjing Agricultural University where she was named “Excellent Graduate” for her academic achievement.

Possessing a solid background that spans both academia and teaching, she joined PolyU CPCE with a wealth of experience gleaned from her roles as a Research Assistant Professor at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and a Lecturer at Fudan University. Her research focuses on metaphor theories and their applications in health discourse, public media, and second language learning, an area in which she also contributes as Associate Editor of Metaphor and the Social World. In 2021, she was awarded the title of “Shanghai PuJiang Talent”.

With rich teaching experience in universities, she has taught courses including Workplace Data Literacy and Communication, Biomedical Research Paper Writing, Practical Writing for Medical Students, Medical English for Academic Purposes, and Advanced English. Before pursuing her MA, she gained instructional experience as an IELTS instructor at Shanghai New Oriental School and Global IELTS. Collectively, these roles have endowed her with a deep well of expertise in addressing the varied needs of learners.
