Dr Raymond Chow Wen-chun received his Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Chinese from Lingnan University. He then obtained his Master of Arts in Chinese Linguistics and Doctor of Applied Language Sciences from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Regarding teacher training, Dr Chow obtained the Diploma in Putonghua Teaching from Hong Kong Baptist University and the Postgraduate Diploma in Education from The Education University of Hong Kong (formerly The Hong Kong Institute of Education).

 

Dr Chow began his career in teaching immediately after finishing his undergraduate studies. He has taught Chinese language and Putonghua as a lecturer and an assistant lecturer at The Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education and The Community College at Lingnan University. Over the years, he has gained rich experience in teaching Chinese to tertiary students. To pursue excellence in Putonghua teaching, Dr Chow has obtained Level One Grade B in the Putonghua Proficiency Test (Putonghua Shuiping Ceshi) organised by The State Language Commission of China.

 

Dr Chow is currently teaching Chinese Communication and Putonghua in this institution. He was assigned as the Project Leader of a territory-wide Putonghua Enhancement Project for four times. The Project was funded by the Standing Committee on Language Education and Research (SCOLAR), a government advisory body. Dr Chow has published several conference papers, proceedings, and monographs in the field of Chinese teaching and learning. His research interests lie in tone perception by L2 learners, acoustic experiments, Cantonese-Putonghua comparison, and teaching Chinese as a second language.
