Dr Sylvia Lin received her MA in Linguistics and MPhil in Applied English Linguistics from The Chinese University of Hong Kong. She then obtained her PhD degree in English from the City University of Hong Kong, where she was awarded the Research Tuition Scholarship and the Outstanding Academic Performance Award.
Her research interests include English for academic purposes, critical thinking, discourse analysis, and L2 motivational practices. Her PhD thesis examines how students exercise and develop critical thinking in the disciplinary research and writing process. She has published journal articles and presented at conferences in the fields of critical thinking, second language acquisition, and L2 motivational studies.
Prior to joining this institution, she taught courses such as University English and English for Business Communication to undergraduate students at the City University of Hong Kong for three years.
