Dr Zoe Chan obtained her Master of Philosophy in English (Literary Studies) and Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in English with a minor in Communication and Journalism from The Chinese University of Hong Kong.

During her role as the Programme Leader of Associate in English for Professional Communication in HKCC, Dr Chan proposed different international study tours for students to immerse in different cultures for gaining language proficiency and understanding their cultural selves. The chaperone role of those tours has nurtured her research interest in the impact of study tours on tour participants. Intrigued by this research phenomenon, Dr Chan further pursued her studies in The University of Hong Kong, obtained her Doctor of Education in English Language Education, investigated the field of intercultural communicative competence.

Dr Chan has very rich teaching experience and her passion was recognised as she was awarded HKCC’s Outstanding Teaching Award in 2021 and the Lively Teaching Awards in several years between 2010 and 2020. She has been responsible for teaching and developing subjects related to Academic English and Communication, Internationalisation Abroad, Oral Communication and English Communication in Creative Cultural Industries. She has also taken up roles as the subject leader and the moderator of various English subjects in the collegiate system.

With her solid academic background and extensive teaching experience, Dr Chan’s research interests lie in intercultural communication, internationalisation, study abroad, and narrative inquiry, etc.
