Dr Leung graduated from The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) with a Bachelor of Science in Cell and Molecular Biology, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Biology. Then, he underwent two post-doctoral training in the fields of pharmaceutical sciences and virology respectively.

His research focuses on nucleic acid to protein interactions, gene regulatory networks, cell fate conversion and virus lineage identification. He has published and served as a reviewer in high-impact journals such as "Nucleic Acids Research" and "Briefings in Bioinformatics".
