Teaching and Scholarly Interests: Humanities
Mr Daniel Chan graduated with distinction in Film Studies from Queen Mary University of London. He later earned his MA in Film and Television Studies (First Honours) from the University of Warwick. His research interests include Classical Hollywood Cinema, Film Criticism and Film Aesthetics. Mr Chan has previously taught at Film and Television School at Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, as well as in the Department of Humanities, Language and Translation, and the Department of Creative Arts at Hong Kong Metropolitan University.
Aside from his scholarly background, Mr Chan is a practising film critic, screenwriter, film translator and curator. He is a columnist for Ming Pao's "Splendor in the Grass" and "Bringing Up Movies". His journalistic publications can be found on various news and media outlets, such as Hong Kong Economic Journal, HK01 and Hong Kong Film Critics Society.
Mr Chan is also a co-founder of a film organisation called Phone Made Good Film. Now, he is a committee member of the art platform Wave Channel and filmmaking crew Wave Pictures. With the Wave Channel and Wave Pictures crew, they have founded Moving Cinema Film Festival where they aim at promoting a healthier film culture by breaking through the formulaic traditions of filmmaking, screening and curatorship.
