Dr Li Hong-ting obtained his Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Design (Culture and Design) from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He then obtained his MA in Philosophy, MPhil in Philosophy, and PhD in Philosophy from The Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Prior to joining this institution, Dr Li worked as a part-time lecturer in various higher education institutions. Courses he taught included Aesthetics, Art History, Art of Film, Ethics, and History of Philosophy.
