Ms Joey Yan obtained her Diploma in Social Work and Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Social Work from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. She then completed both her Master of Social Work and Master of Arts in Values Education from The Chinese University of Hong Kong. She has been pursuing doctoral studies in social work at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University since 2020.
Joey was involved in frontline work. After gaining her Diploma in Social Work, Joey worked as a frontline social worker for children, youth and parents for 17 years. She has extensive experience in developing tailor-made programmes and group projects to meet prevention and development objectives. In light of Joey's frontline experience, she believes that everyone has their own talents that can help them to succeed in life.
Regarding her teaching experience, Joey was a lecturer and a fieldwork coordinator at the Hong Kong College of Technology (HKCT) for three years. Then, she moved to work as a visiting fellow and a fieldwork coordinator at the City University of Hong Kong for one year. Before joining this institution, Joey was a lecturer at HKCT Institute of Higher Education, teaching different subjects such as Philosophical Foundations and Ethics of Social Work, Service Learning in Action, Group Work Skill Lab, and Social Research Methods. Her primary focus is not only on understanding the ways of disseminating social work knowledge to students, but also on teaching and modelling values and attitudes in social work practice.
