Ms Gloria Y.S. Cheng is a registered social worker, certified horticultural therapist, Alzheimer’s Disease International (ADI) certified dementia care planner. She earned her Bachelor of Social Science (Honours) in Social Work from the City University of Hong Kong and Master of Science in Clinical Gerontology from the Faculty of Medicine, The Chinese University of Hong Kong. With over 10 years of frontline and management experience in social work, Ms Cheng has served in various roles, including rehabilitation services for young offenders, dementia care services, elderly day care, and Integrated Care and Discharge Support (ICDS) for elderly patients.
From 2017 to 2024, Ms Cheng was a division member at the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (IVE), where she taught elderly care and social work higher diploma programmes, top-up degree programmes, and coordinated fieldwork. She was recognised with the Vocational Training Council's Teaching Excellence Award in the 2023/24 academic year. In 2024, Ms Cheng joined PolyU CPCE as a Lecturer.
As an educator, Ms Cheng is committed to nurturing her students' strengths and is passionate about sharing the mission and values of social work, and the practice wisdom gained from her past experiences, particularly in elderly and dementia care. She believes in the unique potential of every individual and takes pride in guiding her students along their educational journey.
