Dr Qiu Wei obtained her bachelor's degree from Renmin University of China, majoring in comparative literature, and then got her MA degree and PhD degree from the City University of Hong Kong and Central China Normal University respectively. Dr Qiu has obtained Grade B Level One in the Putonghua Proficiency Test (Putonghua Shuiping Ceshi) organised by the State Language Commission of China.

Before joining this institution, Dr Qiu taught Chinese and Putonghua at The Community College at Lingnan University and served as a coordinator of the Tsuen Wan Optimall Education Centre, responsible for dealing with students’ complaints and helping the college to know more about students’ needs.

Dr Qiu is interested in singing, reading and hiking.
