Dr Melody Lu is an enthusiastic teacher and researcher in linguistics and translation. She graduated from The University of Hong Kong with a first-class-honour BA degree in Translation, fully subsidised by the HKSAR Government Scholarship Fund. Inspired by her industry exposure in translation and personal experience as a polyglot, she explores further in linguistics and second language acquisition by obtaining an MPhil degree and subsequently a PhD degree in Linguistics from The University of Hong Kong, as well as an MA degree in Teaching Chinese as an International Language from The Education University of Hong Kong with an IB Educator Certificate (Distinction).
Prior to joining this institution, she had accumulated extensive experience in both the translation industry and the education sector. As a professional translator in legal, financial and media translation, she carried out projects with HSBC, Hang Seng Bank, Discovery Channel, National Broadcasting Corporation, Sony Pictures and Warner Bros., etc. As a teacher and researcher, she worked as a post-doctoral fellow in the Department of Chinese Language Studies of The Education University of Hong Kong, and a visiting lecturer in the Department of English in The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and the Department of Linguistics in The University of Hong Kong.
Dr Lu is actively engaged in scholarly activities. Her research interests expand from Chinese linguistics, linguistics typology, language contact and grammaticalisation to second language acquisition.
